Taroona Primary School is one of the 50 recipients of the first round of Digital Literacies Schools Grants. As one of the first schools in Tasmania to implement a 1:1 iPad program in 2013, the school has a strong history in the successful uptake of new technologies and relevant pedagogies. How then to extend from our embedded culture of using technologies to “Capture, Create and Collaborate” to the deeper understandings and constantly evolving opportunities in the Digital Technologies curriculum? This case study follows the carefully structured processes Taroona Primary has taken to build teacher knowledge, skills and understanding to saturate digital literacies across the school. The 18 month model of change is built upon leveraging early adopter teachers as at-the-elbow coaches, who work alongside colleagues to integrate digital technologies into other curriculum areas. This case study will address the key leadership considerations of resource allocation, strategies to engage non-digital-native teachers in the new languages of digital technologies, and practical examples of authentic connections in the school and wider community.
